ELEVENTH GENERATION
John LEAVENS *Sr. (267)(268) was born about 1582 in England. He died on 16 November 1647 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. John and Elizabeth arrived in Boston on board the "William and Francis" on 5 June 1632. They settled in Roxbury, outside Boston, and because they were of the "less affluent", they were allotted 6 acres of land. On 4 March 1634, John took the oath of freeman in Boston.

Elizabeth was bedridden when they arrived in America and died in 1638; John was 57 years old. Within a year he married Racheal Wright of Roxbury and they proceeded to build a family. John was 63 years old when Racheal had the twins. Roxbury Church records indicate John died "an ancient godly christian, dyed of dead palsie". The widow received the homestead, located on Dorcester Road in Roxbury and valued at about 100 pounds, by act of General Court, 13 August 1648 (Boston Probate Records). He was married to Rachel WRIGHT * on 5 July 1639 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

Rachel WRIGHT was born about 1618. She died after 1680 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

Children were:
i. John LEAVENS Jr.

ii. James LEAVENS was born on 16 April 1642 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He died on 25 August 1675 in Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. James Leavens, at age 33, while serving in King Phillips War, was killed in a skirmish with Indians at Hadley on the Connecticut River, referred to as "the exposed frontier". James and his brother Andrew were both at Hadley that fateful day both part of the quota from Roxbury.

iii. Peter LEAVENS died on 15 January 1644/45 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He was born on 11 September 1644 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Peter and Andrew Leavens were twins.

iv. Andrew LEAVENS was born on 11 September 1644 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He died on 19 February 1698 in Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Andrew and Peter Leavens were twins. He and his brother James served in King Phillips War and were at Hadley when James was killed by Indians. They were both part of the quota from Roxbury. After his enlistment was up he stayed in Hadley and did not return to Roxbury. It was there that Andrew became freeman on 8 February 1678. He was not a land owner, nor married, but appears to have stayed a soldier until his death at age 53.

v. Rachel LEAVENS was born on 2 August 1646 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
