The son of Thomas and Mary (Messenger) Benedict, he married (1) Rachel Smith on May 13, 1697 in Norwalk and (2) Hannah Knapp of Danbury on October 14, 1740.
He served and fence-viewer and surveyor, selectman between 1709 and 1711 and again in 1730 and 1732. In 1717, he was called "Ensign". His will was proved on June 5, 1744 and his estate was valued at 160 pounds. The following is an excerpt from his will: " I do will and bequeath to my grandchild Thomas Benedick, one 3d part of my Sticky plaine Lot which he hath in part improved and is in part unbroken. I also, bequeath to ye sd Thomas, my second division of medow called Mamathemas -- the lands to be to him and his heirs forever."

Thomas' parents were born and raised on Long Island in the latter half of the 17th century; Thomas Sr. at Southold on the east end of Long Island, and Mary [Messenger] in the west end of the island, at Jamaica Bay. Her parents were one of the original settlers of Jamaica, Long Island.
His inventory, which included one negro man Winsor, amounted to 160 pounds sterling. Thomas passed away in 1737 at the age of 72 years and 5 months. His will was proved June 5, 1744.
After three years of being a widower, Thomas was married to Hannah Knapp. He died less than three years later. His cousin Abraham Benedict married a Rebecca Knapp in 1720, but it is not yet known if the women were related

Thomas Benedict #3 was born December 5, 1670 in Norwalk, Connecticut. He married Rachel, daughter of Samuel and Rachael (Marvin) Smith of Norwalk, on May 13, 1697. He worked as a fence viewer and surveyor and was a selectman from 1709 - 11 and 1730 and 1732. He was called an ensign in 1717. Rachael Benedict, remembered as being "the virtuous and pious consort," died December 1, 1737. Thomas and Rachael Benedict had the following children:

Samuel, born January 31, 1703 - 4.

Thomas Benedict married his second wife, Hannah Knapp of Danbury on October 14, 1740. Thomas died on May 10, 1743. He left an estate valued at 160 pounds that included one negro man, Winsor.
