The Will of THOMAS MERVEYN
The Nuncupative Will of THOMAS MERVEYN of Ramsey, county Essex, dated 23 August 1503. He bequeathed to his wife one half of his household stuff and all the stuff she brought with her on their marriage; also his lands at the Churchgate of Ramsey, to her and her heirs forever. To his son Thomas, his houses in Herwych [Harwich, co. Essex], to him and his heirs forever. To his son Robert, a trunk. To his four daughters, £10. To John Flecher, his part of the quay in Herwych, he paying the testator's executors 40s. Executors: His wife Christian Merveyn, his son John Merveyn, and Thomas Gray. To his son John, his house at Bridge with all the lands thereunto belonging and [lands at] Kent in the Soken, to him and his heirs forever. Witnesses to this nuncupative Will: John Cuko; John Rande; Water Hunt; Reynold Edgar, bailly of Herwych; George Hasketh; Thomas Doye; Lawrence Yong; William Pyerce; Emme White; John Perdryche. Thomas was a man of considerable substance. He bequeathed property at Ramsey, at Harwich, and elsewhere in the neighborhood. He may have married more than once, and it is not possible to judge from the terms of his will whether his wife Christian _____ was the mother of his children, or not.His wife survived him, and was co-executrix of his will. The date of his will is 23 August 1503 and it was probated 11 April 1504. He was buried in the Church of St. Michael the Archangel at Ramsey.
